Winston Peters’ comment this morning that the National Party are “addicted to immigration” is just yet more banging of his old xenophobic drum, says Gayaal Iddamalgoda, Wellington Central candidate for the newly formed Migrant and Refugee Rights Campaign.
“Although Bill English is wrong to blame drugs for unemployment,” says Gayaal Iddamalgoda, who also works as an employment lawyer, “Migrants are not to blame either.”
“We need full rights for migrant workers,” continues Gayaal, “rather than attempting to put the toothpaste back in the tube.”
Gayaal adds that both English and Peters are playing workers against eachother, when migrant workers and citizens should unite against their common enemies.
“Competition between workers is a race to the bottom, unity is the way forward,” Gayaal concludes.
